This book presents the results of a study on traditional Iranian wind tower. A wind tower is a key element in traditional Iranian architecture, seen in settlements with hot, warm-humid, and hot-arid climates, appearing as vertical elements in the skylines of ancient Iranian cities.
A wind tower consists of a vertical shaft with openings at the top that direct the desired wind into the interior space, providing thermal comfort. Wind tower have enabled the concept of natural ventilation. This feature demonstrates the adaptability of its architectural design to the environment. The function of the wind tower is clear based on principles of sustainability and energy conservation, although traditional designs are usually adapted to their environment.
